Gentle Birth & Pain-Free Breastfeeding Support

Supporting mothers with evidence-based, gentle guidance using The Thompson Method, so you can breastfeed with confidence and comfort from the very beginning.

My Story

A Journey I Never Expected

My name is Karen Gall. I am an experienced Endorsed Midwife and a mother of two. My own breastfeeding journey was not easy. After the birth of my daughter following pre-eclampsia, I experienced painful nipple trauma, slow weight gain, and a loss of confidence after being taught forceful techniques in hospital.

When I became pregnant with my son, I was determined to make breastfeeding work. Despite ongoing challenges, hospital admissions, and exhaustion, I persevered. As a midwife, I was trained in commonly taught techniques, but it was only after discovering The Thompson Method that I truly understood why breastfeeding had been so painful.

The Thompson Method works. I only wish I had known about it 23 years ago.

What Is The Thompson Method?

The Thompson Method is a gentle, evidence-based approach to birth and pain-free breastfeeding. It was developed by Dr Robyn Thompson, a midwife with over 50 years of experience, who completed her PhD researching why so many women leave hospital with nipple trauma, engorgement, and mastitis.

This method challenges commonly taught forceful techniques and replaces them with gentle, instinct-led practices that support both mother and baby.

Why would The Thompson Method work when nothing else has?
  • A gentle approach backed by research

  • Challenges forceful hospital techniques

  • Reduces pain, stress, and overwhelm

  • Empowers women to trust their instincts

Respect, Guidance & Support

I understand how challenging breastfeeding can be, especially after a difficult or traumatic birth. My aim is for you to feel heard, respected, and supported while working through your unique situation.

While I cannot guarantee a perfect outcome, I provide personalised care with a strong duty of care for the wellbeing of both you and your baby.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

The Thompson Method is a gentle, evidence-based approach that challenges the forceful techniques commonly taught in hospitals. It focuses on reducing pain, supporting your baby’s natural instincts, and empowering you with knowledge so breastfeeding feels calm and achievable.

Hospital classes often cover many topics, with breastfeeding only briefly discussed. This education is entirely focused on breastfeeding, preparing you in detail so you feel confident, informed, and supported from the very first feed.

Yes, but many women are shown different techniques by different people, often under time pressure. This can be confusing and stressful. Learning beforehand helps you feel confident making choices and gently advocating for yourself and your baby.

Every mother and baby are unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. The Thompson Method can support most women, even those who have struggled before. While outcomes can’t be guaranteed, the principles are designed to reduce pain and support successful breastfeeding.

The earlier, the better. Starting during pregnancy allows you to fully absorb the information, prepare your birth and breastfeeding plan, and feel confident going into labour and beyond.
